The problem
The founder built the app on Replit. It looked right in a demo, but it had build-breaking errors on iOS. It also had none of the privacy and terms pages Apple requires, and the whole backend lived inside Replit. On top of that, the launch date was close.
The result
- On the App Store since 26 Feb 2026, approved on the first submission
- Backend on AWS, defined in Terraform, in the client’s own account. No more Replit lock-in.
- Since August 2026, every commit to the app and the server is mine.
What I did
- 1Fixed the build-blocking errors and set up EAS builds for iOS and Android.
- 2Built and hosted the policy pages Apple requires and ran the App Store Connect submission.
- 3Added what a youth audience needs for review: an age gate, parental consent and clear privacy permissions.
- 4Moved the backend off Replit to AWS on my own: App Runner, RDS and Terraform, with keyless GitHub deploys and a manual approval step for production.
- 5Built an upload queue so athletes’ drill videos aren’t lost on weak connections.
- 6Set up three EAS pipelines. They ship over-the-air updates when only JavaScript changes, and a new TestFlight build when native code does.
